Hey everyone,
Lately, my car has been stalling whenever I come to a stop or let it idle for a while. It runs fine when I’m driving, but as soon as I stop at a light or put it in park, it struggles and sometimes dies completely.
I’ve cleaned the throttle body and checked the battery, but the issue is still there. What else could be causing this? Could it be a bad sensor or a vacuum leak?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hey man,
There are a few possible reasons your car is stalling at idle. Here are some things to check:
Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) – This valve controls how much air gets into the engine when idling. If it’s dirty or failing, your car might stall. Try cleaning or replacing it.
Throttle Body & MAF Sensor – You already cleaned the throttle body, but also check the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF). A dirty or faulty MAF can cause idle issues.
Vacuum Leaks – A vacuum leak can mess with the air-fuel mixture, leading to rough idling or stalling. Inspect hoses for cracks or leaks.
EGR Valve Sticking – If the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is stuck open, it can cause stalling at low RPMs. Cleaning or replacing it might help.
Fuel System Issues – A weak fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, or bad fuel pressure regulator can cause stalling. Try checking your fuel pressure.
Bad Spark Plugs or Ignition Coils – Worn spark plugs or coils can cause misfires, making the engine stall. If they haven’t been changed in a while, it’s worth looking into.
Check Engine Light Codes – If your check engine light is on, scan the car for codes. It might point you in the right direction.
