AC only blows cold while driving – normal or something wrong?

Hey all,

I noticed that the AC in my car (2015 Toyota Corolla) only blows cold when I’m actually driving. When I’m stopped at a red light or idling, the air gets noticeably warmer. Once I start moving again, it cools back down.

Is this normal? Or is something starting to go bad? AC system was recharged about 6 months ago.

Thanks!

Yeah, that sounds like a weak condenser fan or maybe it’s not kicking on at all when you’re idling. When you’re moving, air flows over the condenser naturally, which helps it cool.

Had the same thing happen with my Camry—turned out the fan wasn’t working at low speeds. Might be worth checking if it spins when the AC is on.

Not a huge fix, but definitely something to look at before summer hits.
